Kyochuu Rettou

Oh boy, here we go again.
This time, instead of Zombies, we got bugs.

Yep, bugs kills people. And a very huge one.
Of course we got a load of girls and some guys. And a lot of... uh... fanservice, like borderline hentai.

The story is kinda ok, its about MC who stranded into an island, also a survivor from plane crash, finding survivors, get out of island... right?
From the point of whole manga series, the biggest, biggest weakness is Character.

As I mention, I don`t even like character a lot. We got a MC which knows a lot of bugs behavior, yadayadayada, I know everything type character, she is pretty... quite capable, but humiliated by some shitty people. And of course she just obeying them.

Talk about side-character, we got a "pretty helpful" comrades and "fuckin kill this shitbag" character. And one lucky dude who still survived. And yes I`m wondering why I changed my tone because I don`t like it.

Art was pretty great, to be obvious, despite of fan-service, it has way detailed on bugs and "r18g" stuff. But I think even art won`t save from bad writing story and character.

I give it 3/10. Of course this book still haven`t finished yet because the sequel named "Dai Kyochuu Rettou" which is a new chapter. I wonder why it didn`t stick to same title anyway.

This manga is like trash tv, it sucks ass but you still want to know what happens next. The plot is pretty straightforward, they got stranded and need to find a way out. Wouldn't recommend getting too attached to any of the characters except for the dude with the braids as majority of them are either a dumbass or a rapist. This is something you would read if you're really bored as once you read it you'll be falling into a rabbit hole. Had to bleach my eyes after seeing some things in there that will forever be engrained in my head.

Oh boy, where do I even begin?

The heroine can memorize pretty much everything and the whole cast of characters are stereotypical and superficial. But for real though, the heroine of the story is just such a garbage mc who knows everything and barrages us with explanations noone gives a shit about. While I do not particularly despise explanations, this one is on the bad side of explanations.

The premise of the story isn't original but not too bad, but the way how everything has been set in motion feels just so forced because the characters jump from one tense moment to another.

The action is fine enough for a shounen manga I guess but some readers might find the unnecessary amount of ecchi to be a huge disconnect to the manga. I don't particularly mind them but I nontheless still think that it doesn't really help raise the quality of the manga.

The art is decent enough.

Oh boy, a manga where even the scanlators can't take it serious is saying a lot already and tbh that's all I wanted to write for this review.

I usually have never felt compelled to write up a formal review in my life. Never has something so forced me to tears for better or for worse to want to tell the entire world whether to avoid or seek out something. But Kyochuu Rettou is truly one of the most foul things ever put onto paper that my poor eyes have had to bear witness to in a long time.

The story is from decades past of B movies = X scenario BUT giant bugs appear, how wacky! Just to be clear, I do not hate this setting. The giant bug section of fiction can be extremely fun and enjoyable, even scary when done right or perfectly camp if done in tongue and cheek fashion; please see Terraformars or Earth Defence Force as good examples of what I believe are good uses of the trope.
To put it lightly the story was abysmally dull and contrived to the ninth degree. I'm not sure if the manga was cancelled or what but there never is any explanation, never any answers, never any payoff to story beats. There is nothing of substance to follow, you are left with no enjoyment beyong the characters and the art. You go through a short, railroad of events and moments that I had to force myself to keep reading beyond the few first chapters that showed something a little interesting.

Unfortunately for the longevity of the manga, that interesting part is the art. Although the rest of the heart, soul and body of the manga is completely barren and bare bones, the artwork and gore of it is actually quite good. I kept reading beyond a certain point for the gore alone, intestines come out in entire clumps, people get sucked into withered husks, cut in half, eaten alive and even more gruesome ends. As a closet fan of gorey slasher films, I found this to be personally appealing and for anyone else who is a fan of it, I'm sure you'll find the barest minimum of human entertainment beyond looking at a still frame of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
As for the environments, it is set on an abandoned island. The architecture is rare and barely worth to speak of, the different biomes of the island are just the exact same forest and two beaches. There is no crazy or wild or even eye catching fauna throughout the entire series. As backgrounds, it is entirely passable. I wish I had more to say but it is clear where the mangaka's strengths lie.

Certainly not with character design though, most female characters are an exact body type replica of high school girl with giant breasts. And considering the manga's constant use of nudity and sex throughout, I can see why they did that but it doesn't interest me and ended up adding to my disgust beyond the first chapters. Almost every character in this manga: male or female, teacher or student, main or side. Is a one-dimensional husk who has nothing to them, nothing of value or interest to see or find out about them, they are an exaggeration of one random trait (generally negative) blown up to the power of ten. This makes it extremely difficult to form any attachment or care to any single character in the manga, by the end I only cared about one and half cared about another. When there were a cast of upwards of around twentyish characters oveall this was disappointing to say the least.
Without spoiling any "surprises" if you could dare call them that, you will be wanting and wishing the entire cast dies horrifically. Maybe that was the point, maybe it isn't the mangaka is just awful at writing any living person and we are meant to hate them to the core of our own soul. I'm sure once you finish it if you still feel inclined to will go through the same coping mechanisms like lying to yourself like this to explain what you just read and wasted part of your life on.

Kyochuu Rettou is unenjoyable. To almost the maximum extent. The only bit of pleasure I could derive from this was some sort of petty, primal enjoyment of seeing characters I couldn't stand die horribly for the things they did to others. The other only enjoyable part was seeing the attention to a lot of the bugs when made so large and shows the mangaka did actually have a sort of passion for the theme. Which makes me question how... the entire rest of the manga was created. The artist can obviously draw really well, they have at least a passing interest and knowledge of bugs and can recreate them well in a gigantic setting. Yet, this piece of art is missing almost every single other neccessary component to be called a passable manga to anyone. If it wasn't for this slight hint of passion and good artwork, I would have given this manga an unapologetic one out of ten.

The best way to describe this manga would be that it is a dumpster fire that you can't look away from.

The art itself is good looking and I enjoyed reading through it although some characters and moments are just frustrating and annoying. It's very explicit in the way that it shows sex(there is a ton of it) in general which includes rape and then the killing stuff. All the characters are pretty much cliche archetypes aka the overly smart girl, the asshole etc. The story is atrocious and the characters are terrible yet I found myself enjoying it mainly because of how absurd the story was and how truly stupid the characters seem. I say all that to say.... if you are into dumpster fire worthy manga please read this shit.

I did not say shit about the story but basically, it's about people trying to survive on an island full of giant bugs who kill and rape.

If you're looking for a horror manga with nice art and gore, you might enjoy this manga. If you're looking for a horror manga with decently written characters along with nice art and gore, pass this one over. THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS AND MENTIONS OF RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT, so don't read the rest if you want to avoid those.

The premise isn't anything unique (and its certainly not fleshed out beyond 'avoid the killer giant insects') but it's enjoyable for what it is, and its evident at least some research went into the various species included which is nice. The art is nicely done and there's an impressive level of detail put into the insects.

Unfortunately, the actual writing isn't as good as the art. Characters are shoehorned into specific roles (the strict class president, the arrogant punk, the promiscuous alpha bitch, the wimpy idol and so on) and are never given any development beyond that and never actually learn from anything they go through. The stunning lack of character development makes it hard to care about them at all or be invested in their survival at all. The writer invokes 'anyone can die at any time' frequently, which makes it even harder to care about the cast - Why bother getting invested in flatly written characters when half of them will probably end up dead? - and even worse, it's usually the only vaguely likeable ones that die. The chick who was going to rape one of the other female characters when she was tied up and who is one of the closest things to a hate sink in the manga? Still alive. The idiot who insisted he was the leader only to be a selfish, useless waste? Still alive. The group that barricaded two others outside to die? As of writing, still alive.

This brings me to other major qualm with the writing: The use of rape and sexual assault for drama. In a manga about man eating insects, you'd think the drama would revolve around survival and the insects. Instead, in the span of 22 chapters there have been three onscreen cases of rape and attempted rape and one case of dubious consent along with the instances early on where larvae eating people read uncomfortably sexually, complete with focus on bare breasts.

All in all, I can't recommend Kyochuu Rettou to anyone. The art and research aren't worth bad writing and unappealing characters.

Oribe Mutsumi and her classmates were stranded on a seemingly deserted island. Mutsumi found the other survivors, and used her wilderness knowledge to help them.

She expects that they will be rescued in about three days, which doesn't seem so long to endure. However, she didn't account for the fact that the island is populated with gigantic killer insects. Her knowledge of butterflies, wasps, and more may be the only thing that will help any of her classmates survive to be rescued!

The manga sets you into a jungle of large insects and a team of people whose heads are messed up.

The characters are horrible and doesn't seem to learn anything from their previous experiences.

The main protagonist is clever but is horribly useless in group settings, sub-characters are flat and really is 2 dimensioned (They have one setting, that's it, no growth at all.) Her knowledge? It's being undermined so much that, if it's me, i would have just turned around and let people who would listen come along.

I get really frustrated when reading this manga and dropping it.

Im a big fan o survival anime horror and I gotta say I was not disappointed with this manga. One I would recomnd in a BIG way for anyon loking to read something strange and out of th ordinary straight out of there favourite b movie style manga.

What I liked most about this manga was the way that this keot you on the edge of your seat surprise wise. One minute you think the charecters are safe the next... well youll just have to wait and see for yourself. As a lover of b movie's Ive got to say I am a true addict of this manga
