Summary
Jae is a Korean student who came to Europe to study art. Things aren't going her way, but she's determined to make it. One night, her friend Melissa brings a drunk guy to her apartment and asks if he can stay there for the night. Jae doesn't like it, but agrees. That night she has a dream that the drunk guy drinks her blood...which, of course, turns out NOT to be a dream.
Jae is surprisingly unafraid of the vampire, Michael, and starts to paint his portrait. The two strike an unusual deal: if Jae allows the vampire to feed on her, he will pose for her. His beauty and alluring preternatural energy could be exactly what Jae needs to finally succeed as a painter.

I really enjoyed this manhwa. Was searching for some good love story with the vampires, and I found this one.
My second time reading it, cause during the first read I was a bit confused. Now things got clarified a bit, and I still love it. Story 8/10 I didn't expect love between the guys, but the story is done in a way in which I didn't mind. So don't drop it if you're not into it. It's a good story which might be confusing when Adrian shows up because the shit is about to go down lol. So I recommend you read it carefully, it's not something others can explain to you cause every reader has his own interpretation of it as well as the ending itself. I read many comments of other fans describing how they understood the ending. Characters 8/10 I LOVE Jae. She's strong spirited and stubborn, doesn't tolerate shit. Michael is a complex character, and he's supposed to be like that, he's a vampire who lived for centuries. Eva and Ken... Tormented characters. My favorite male is Ken, because he's showing incredible growth from the beginning 'till the end. Art 10/10 Pure awesomeness in all its gothic glory. Enjoyment 9/10 Kept me glued till the end, I read it all in one night. (was literally seeing their images in my sleep hahaha) Overall 8/10 A hundred times better love story than a Vampire Knight for me, lol. You should give this one a chance if you are a fan of the vampires like me :) |

This story is like walking into an unknown world. You want to stay, yet you're afraid. The loneliness and peace is heavy on your soul and it's is impossible to stop reading. This is how I felt the moment I began reading. There was humor, sadness, love, and adventure on every page. You could feel what the reader was feeling and understand where they were coming from. Even if you detested them you could still feel the passion in their voice.
The art is breathtaking!! The tale is immortal. My advice is to take it in slowly. No need to rush! Savor it and you will remember each and every word. I loved it so much I had another go at it. It's worth your time. Try it and you won't stop till you're done. You have my word. ^ ^ |

Yea, well model is pretty awesome. I could say i enjoyed it. But, it was very hard to read some pages were right to left and some were left to right. i probably had read some wrong possibly, but who knows! though it was hard to read i believe that was the most gothic horrible yet enjoyable manga ever.

Model was one of those Manga's that I saw sitting there on the Barnes&Noble shelf, said "Hey, never heard of that one!", and bought it.
The art was one of the first things that I found wonderful about the story. It has a very unique style and it captivated me with the eye-catching scenery and beautiful character design. Although more Feminine, the style was a perfect fit to the story. The plot reminded me of a a half-started puzzle. It never really made sense at first. It gave you bits and pieces but nothing that really showed the big picture. But slowly, the story comes together to lead to a fascinating end. Yes, it is hard to follow at first, but eventually, it comes to an end that fits the story. The characters also set this manga a part from most vampire story. Jae is a strong heroine which I don't often see. Normally, you get the "Oh no I was snared by the beautiful creature oh help" character, but Jae is a definite but curious girl. Micheal is closer to your stereotypical vampire: Sadistic, blood-thirsty, stuck up, but the author gave him an interesting twist. They made him an artist and gave him a very juicy past. Ken, although being the rebellious and rudely playful stranger, plays a very important role and really becomes one of the characters that you want to see get what he wants. And Eva has one of the most dynamic setups in the bunch. Not being one to be a fan of the Vampire love story, I still found this to be an enthralling tale! I would defiantly recommend this! |

I have read a lot of different vampire mangas , each one having a certain view over a vampire’s psychology and way of behaving. Model is the type that sees them as human-like creatures, from the way they look to the way they think and feel. Yet, in this manga, vampires still hate daylight, are cold-blooded and immortal and obviously drink blood.
The plod is very well built-up and there are only 7 volumes, so you won’t get bored. Also, this manga is well drowned. Reading this manga gives you a great feeling, I recommend it to anyone who likes love stories, even a little. …By the way, the ending is superb. |

First of all, I should say how intriguing Model is, as you are first starting to read it. At a certain con (coughOHAYOCONcough) my mom bought me the first 3 volumes, just to try it out. We had to go back the next day to get the last 4 volumes, b/c I had already finished the first 3 and still wanted more.
The story in itself is very unique. I have never read such an interesting vampire story, and with such a quirky twist here and there. The ending was a bit rushed, if there isn't a better word for it, but otherwise it left you with a feeling of satisfaction. You could say the same for the art as you did for the storyline. The mangaka surely took time and thought as they planned out each page. It wasn't the best artwork ever, but the characters were drawn well, and I especially loved the covers for the volumes! Character personalities were fine also, and I really loved each of the characters' attitudes as they started to talk more and more about touchy subjects. I have to say, if they ever make this into an anime, I would LOVE to be the voice of Jae, the main character. She's so spunky and always knows what to say, but the down-side is that she can't seem to make up her mind when it comes to picking a lover. Model is definitely something you don't want to miss out on, at the very least. It's sure to keep you entertained and awaiting the next volume! |

Art:
The first thing catching my eyes was the art. It is unique and is unlike anything I have ever seen, although it reminded me ever so slightly about the art by Kang-Won Kim (I.N.V.U) and Tomu Oomi (Midnight secretary). All the characters have feminine faces and masculine bodies, which can be very confusing when figuring out their genders. It took me around an hour to get used to the art. Honestly, first I thought it was quite horrible, but as time passed I saw it as beautiful in its own unique way. That it is a Korean manga (manhwa) does most likely have something to do with the style. The pages were beautifully shaded (quite rough at times, though - but it gave a good effect), but many times I was confused by the layout and speech bubbles. The manhwa is read the western way, but I was not confused in the beginning. It is easy to see the reading direction, but since the speech sometimes do not seem to go well together I was confused. The background and small details were amazing! I mentally asked myself "Is there anything that woman cannot draw!?" - I am still doubting. Lee (the artist) is undoubtedly very skilled! A thing bugging me is the layout. It is litterally impossible to see whether you are reading a flashback, a dream or pesent events. It also annoyed me that the scenes shifts so suddenly. One moment you are reading about something happening in the garden, and on the middle of the page you begin reading something in the basement - Fusing this and the confusing flashback-dream-present thing, this manhwa has the honour of being the most confusing comic I have ever read! So keep focus when reading, people! Story: I am in great doubt here. The story itself might be good, might not, and I am not sure. The layout confused me so much that I had difficulties in noticing whether scenes were dreams or background stories for the characters. It annoyed me greatly. This manhwa also has the title of containing one of the most confusing plots I have ever laid my eyes upon. What annoys me most is all the "holes" which yet have not been filled. Even though a lot of threads are put to an end throughout the whole manhwa, there still are a lot of questions needing answers in the end. I guess something like this is more or less inevitable when throwing yourself into a comic like this. You, as the reader, know technically everything happening, and it can be diffucult to remember who knows what, who do not, and who dreamt what - and if it is true. I gave up trying to get along in that part. If you are sharp-witted and enjoy some mental puzzle, Model might be something for you! Characters: First of all, I like the concept of making Jae,the main character, an artist (like myself). It helped me in relating myself with her to fully understand her choices. You see, Jae is a very strong-willed and passionate artist who lives for art. When she one day ends up with a vampire, who critizes her drawings, in her apartment, they make a deal. Jae will show the vampire her passion for art if he will be the model. And so it all begins. Something that (also) annoys me a little are some of the characters' sexualities. Michael, as the vampire is named, has the tendency to kiss both men and women. And he kisses a lot. I think I will be able to count up to 30 kisses through all 7 books. Not that it is a bad thing once he kisses the "right" person... Back to main topic. I really like all the character designs; how every person has their own personality, and yet they share some traits.I especially like how every person has their own opinions and is stubborn. They all wish and desire for something, and it is good to see characters with such strong willpower. Something that confused me quite a lot is that the characters' emotions and feelings change in a heartbeat. But I am grateful that we get such insight in their feelings because many things in the manhwa is very touchy and sad - and painful. I counted 8 characters through the whole series, 4 of them being main characters, even though Jae is the most important one. She is also the one who tells the story, her thoughts being a kind of guidance to us, and yet we see a lot of scenes she is not a part of or knows of. Technically, there are two point of views... But nothing that has a bad influence to the story. Enjoyment: In the beginning, I thought "Why am I reading this? The art is horrible, the plot vague and the layout confusing.", but as time passed I began enjoying it more, even though the plot and layout became more confusing than before. I got to like or hate characters and have my own personal opinions about what would be best for them to do and say, and even though I was very confused all way through, my emotions followed along - and in the end I cried. I love and hate the end. I love and hate the characters, their choices and everything about them. In the middle of the manhwa, I considered giving it a 7, but in the end I was in no doubt; even though it was confusing it was certainly worth reading. I really enjoyed reading it and following the characters' personal developments. I stayed up all night to early morning just to read it, and I found convincing myself to go to bed quite difficult. It takes a lot of time to read, and you will be surprised when you see the amount of pages in each chapter/book. 7 chapters with in average 100 pages each. A time killer, yes, but a good one. I do not regret having read it. Recommendations: If you like love triangles, vampires, hurt/comfort, mystery and mental puzzle this might be something just for you! Oh, and if you liked this, I recommend that you take a look at "Midnight Secretary"! :) |
