Akira review
If Akira was published today, I very much doubt it would get a fraction of the praise it now gets (even if it was updated to the "present time").
The good about this manga has already been told extensively, so I will talk about the bad.

Kaneda, one the main characters, is a normal human being, yet somehow he can wrestle with Superman, outsmart Batman, and overcome the Fates and the angels of Death. Additionally, he drives the fanciest motorcycles (and is the best rider, obviously), and gets the girl (another obviously, as all good heroes are supposed to get the girl). By the way, Kaneda is a teenager, like many of the readers to whom the manga was targeted. Coincidence?

There is supposed to be a relationship between two characters like the one you can find in Berserk and other manga. But here the relationship is poorly developed - okay, maybe I am being too soft here. The relationsihip is rather not developed (a couple of drawings to tell a sotry which, admittedly, didnt need more because it was cliché even back in the day).

Wondering whats behind the powers of some of the characters? Well, dont. It is just military experimentation and that kind of stuff. You do not need to know more, and you wouldnt understand it anyway. Think of it as a world with magic, but no rules, so the author can have whatever they want, and need, any time.

There are characters that can read the thoughts of other characters, fly, survive in space, cause explosions more destructive than the bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But, a regular Joe can kick their asses.

There is no consistency as to what sort of skill can is a "power" mastered by a character. In Akira, we may find a characer than can simply jump very high, another that can move objects with their mind, yet another that can apparently see what is going on everywhere in the world and, further, has the ability to direct that vision to precisely what is of interest to them - instantly.

Etc. etc.

If you are not bothered by thinks like those above, then Akira is a great read. Otherwise, dont waster your time.

Midara na Jakyou ni Sukuu Mono review
Yes it's over 27 chapters for this. I can't really say what I've really felt during my read, besides the fact that it really doesn't work.

The cult setting isn't that bad, I mean it could work, but the way it is developed really brings tears to my eyes, just a fanservice with just like hardcore ecchi and whatnot, it almost... what's me with this euphemism it definitily crosses the Hentai line fr what was that. Ohh but you though it was only going to be ecchi, nah bro be ready to see some abuse as well. Really disgusting, but not enough for you to feel that shock or anything just disgust from the cast and the main character who does nothing.
The story progresses for most of the manga, but then suddenly the writter decided to give up, and he just put a damn timeskip and finish the damn thing, good choice author, but at least you could show or tell what happened, not just make it seem like we can understand what happened through that time with that explanation. (that was towards the ending so I'm kind of making it to big of a deal). Anyway forget the timeskip the story still isn't good it's just lazy writting for the author to be able to add more fanservice, like add some substance make the mysteries interesting, make me have the will to keep reading, make the thing interesting dammit.

As for the characters, we have a set of characters that are really, but really dumb, it just has such simple things that are so easily noticable even for the cast and it's incredible how they all just turn a blind eye to it. And Tooru the guy from the main duo some stuff he does or even better does not do are just irredemable. Another thing that really surprised me about it was the "amazing" antagonist that really had no damn reason for doing some stuff he did, like some acts were understandable (not justifiable), but towards the half and forward he just did, just cause and that's it. I just won't give it a 2/10 for the character cause we almost had someone named Kirito (Kirio), just like the best main character ever made am I right?! (the character was terrible just like the main antagonist who had no reason just did things just cause, but I mean it's almost Kirito right?!)

Well I can't trash talk the art cause it's decent, like it isn't like the art of "Berserk" but it definitely is more inclined to the good side of things, but it really doesn't make up for the rest of "good stuff" the manga offers.

So I really can't not recommend this even if u are in your worst or bored, it really isn't worth the read. Just find any other random thing it's better for your mental sanity.
I promisse you this isn't a hidden gem in the world of manga.

Ashigei Shoujo Komura-san review
Again, what more can you expect from this manga? It's a foot fetish work. So going into it, there obviously won't be some overarching story. The basic idea gets old. As for this being a romance manga...it can't even do that. The relationship between the two is unconvincing and is incredibly slow-paced. I just do not buy any bonding.

As for the art, well since it is obviously trying to appeal to those with foot fetishes, it does it adequately. The art isn't bad, but none of it comes off as provocative. The manga to me tries too hard to be "sexy" with Komura performing stunts that at first appear anatomically impossible. She is flexible, but that is taking it much too far past the point of disbelief. And there are scenes where her feet get sweaty which is admittedly nauseating. Just nothing about how the feet are drawn appealing in the slightest.

Characters. Both Tsukinaga and Komura are flat. Komura comes off as energetic and oftentimes naïve. She isn't downright hateable, but at the same time, her main schtick is that she does several tasks with her feet. She is nothing more than a walking example of fanservice for fanservice's sake. Tsukinaga is a boring protagonist with his only unique trait being that he loved animals. Minor characters include the public morals officer who carried around a wooden sword. She is simply terrible. She is like that rash that annoys you and you try to scratch at but can't completely get rid of. The owner of the school shop is opportunistic and comes off as just horrible. None of the characters stand out as great and there isn't much a reason as to why you should care about them either.

This manga, as I should remind you, was really only made to appeal to people with foot fetishes, and for that, I feel it does its job. But it's a double-edged sword. It sacrifices itself catering to a very specific demographic, but that's all it has to offer.

Story 4/10
Interesting start, it drags you in, but that's about the only positive thing I have to say.
The hero is an annoying ass, but as usual, he has a reason why. (Not really justified in my book, but hey, that's HQ policy).
I like to say the heroine's attitude towards the hero is divided into 5 phases:
1. "Why the hell am I falling for such a jerk, but I can't resist his kisses, he's hot."
2. "He's a jerk because of sob story, So, he's a kind jerk."
3. "I want to have sex with this jerk because I love him."
4. "He will never love me, so I better forget him no matter how huge of a jerk he continues to be."
5."He said he loves me despite all the s**t he put me through, so I'll just forgive him and live happily ever after. Who cares?"
My interest in the story dropped significantly when I reached the middle of it, mostly because the relationship between the main charas is bollocks; the plot was interesting in the beginning, but fell flat since you can pretty much predict what happened without reading the whole thing. Not to mention their behavior.
Characters 3/10
Didn't like the hero or the heroine. He treated heroine horribly, and while I could somewhat understand why in the start, the rest of it didn't make sense.
The heroine's behavior towards the hero is confusing. You spent with him so little time and yet you love him? Even though he only insults you then wants to have sex with you. Nah. No bueno in my book.
Art: 6/10
It was a nice art wasted on such a story.
Overall 4/10
Wouldn't recommend, but even if you read it by accident and think it can't be worse than this, well it can, I read worse stories than this one trust me. That's why I gave it 4.

Blaster Knuckle review
Have you ever wondered what early Berserk would be like if the Black Swordsman were actually black, the demons he fought were members of the KKK, and the whole thing was set in the American southwest of 1880? Well, Blaster Knuckle is the answer you your questions.

Blaster Knuckle is one of those novelty manga that no matter whether it’s any good or not, is going to get it’s own little cult fanbase just for being what it is. The plot is as follows - Victor Freeman is a former heavyweight boxer whose father was killed by the KKK when he was young. However, Victor knows the secret behind the KKK - it is headed by half-vampire half-warewolf demons that eat humans. Because black people are prejudiced against, they are easy to be hunted and killed and not missed, so the monsters mainly feed on them. Victor is out to destroy these monsters one at a time on his endless quest for vengeance.

Because the beasts he fights are immortal, he has to blow up their heads to kill them, which he does with his badass fucking shotgun glove loaded with silver shells. When he kills the demons, though, they become regular human corpses, so the world knows him as a murderer and there is a huge bounty on his head. Therefor, Victor walks a lone road, taking the pain of being hunted and the burden of vengeance onto himself. Of course, like Gatts, he’s way too badass to mind.

The manga is only 3 volumes long, so the plot is pretty basic, but it does enough in that time to have a decent variety, not outstay it’s welcome, and leave a great taste in your mouth. It’s mostly about Victor Freeman being insanely badass, blowing off peoples heads, and freeing his fellow black man. The depiction of 1880’s American life is actually pretty researched and accurate aside from the, like, demons. Some fun side characters are introduced, and the ending is significantly epic. Interestingly, a lot of the plot is actually withheld for the later parts so that you only really get the full picture in the end. So, while the plot isn’t particularly deep or complex, it’s more than good enough to stand up to the novelty value and make it worth reading all three volumes and keeping it memorable.

The artwork in Blaster Knuckle is about as good as it really needs to be. It takes the usual seinen route of more realistic characters and more grotesquely detailed monsters. Victor Freeman is a badass, but he looks EXACTLY like Gatts from Berserk, only black. Even the Blaster Knuckle could be called a sort of copy of Gatts’ arm canon. What’s really important, though, is that Wazarai Shizuya knows how to draw some badass fight scenes. The fights flow well and are a ton of fun, especially because of Victor’s boxing style that gives an extra level of cool to the fights, like you can tell he knows what he’s doing. And while Victor is absurdly powerful, he does get kicked around enough that the battles don’t feel totally one-sided. Towards the end, there get to be some especially great fights when Victor and one of his com padres are taking out hordes of enemies.

And of course, seeing as how we’re dealing with demons and shotguns, there is bound to be a decent amount of gore. Blaster Knuckle does have some shock value moments, though they are more or less justified by the plot. That said, there’s nothing more fun than showing off some of the crazier pages.

It’s a shame that this manga is almost totally unheard of and will likely never, ever make it to America, because I would love to own it. Even if the main draw is the novelty, I do think it’s more than fun and cool enough to re-read, which just makes it that much more awesome. It’s one of those manga you simply can’t help but love no matter how silly it is. Even though you can never find it in America, it is actually fully scanslated thanks to a group that formed just to release this manga, and is findable right on MangaFox (which is good because I’ve been too lazy to download the series for like 2 years now, lol.) It’s more than worth reading if you’re like me and always wanted to see more black people in manga, or if you just generally like absurd gore, badass dudes, and crazy action fun.
