Koe no Katachi review
First of all I honestly didn't expect this manga could bring me on such a feels trip, but it did. The story revolves a hot headed dare devil Ishida Shouya and how he bullied and mentally tortured a deaf girl by the name of Nishimiya Shouko to the point the entire class joins in and she is forced to transfer to another school. Soon after the class's attitude turns to Ishida and the one who started it all is the new target. Years later of being the class's punching bag and scapegoat he begins to realize how badly he treated Shouko and after coincidentally running into her once again he decides to walk the path of redemption by making for the years he selfishly taken from Shouya while at the same time making sure the crimes of his ugly past doesn't come back to haunt him.

This story touches on so many real world topics, : Bullying of the disabled, the pain of learning that because you're different someone or everyone will take advantage of the situation making your or someone's life hell in the long run. It also covers learning to deal with your past transgressions, learning how to make friends from scratch and most importantly how people, good or bad can change. Ooima, Yoshitoki definitely will capture your heart and emotions when you read this from start to finish.

As of this review there has been a movie announced so I'm pretty excited to watch the heart tugging feels I felt while reading now on my laptop screen. Hopefully the emotions of the characters to the music brings me back to the first time I read the manga.

Fullmetal Alchemist review
First review for a manga series because I have to do this! I can't believe no one has yet written one!!

Story: I am not going to go in the whole 'this happens and that happens' as you can read that in the summary up there *points* About the story itself, all I can say is that it has one of the best developed plots I have ever encountered. Everything comes closer and closer to the main goal and even when you think it has nothing to do with the story, you find out that it has a tremendous value to the whole tale. It definitely deserves to be in the top spots for this. A 10.

Art: The art is a tad bit simplistic, but I guess this is what makes the pages nice and neat and pleasant to read, while also making the characters look absolutely endearing! It's not cluttered up like a lot of manga these days but it conveys the mood just as effectively. I really think that this deserves and 8.

Character: One of the best characters out there, I personaly consider Ed, Al, Winry, Mustang, Riza....everyone! to be absolutely perfect. So far I have no problem understanding what each person went through; no confusing twists in characyer development that could bring the reader to drop it just because they would give up on following them. Each and every one of these characters will make a you cry for them why you see their hardships and laugh with them at cracked skulls (of wrenches XD) A 10 and no less.

Enjoyment: From all of the manga I've ever encountered, I think this one will stay pretty near the top for the next 5 years or so. If you want Action,Adventure,Sci-Fi, Alchemy and even Romance, then this is definitely something for you. You get a little thrill everytime you sit down to a new chapter. I hope it doesn't end too soon XD

Overall: If you want a manga woth your time and money, FMA is for you. In all, nothing could be said bad about it. It's incredible!

I hope this helps everyone! :] Please take a look at it if you get the chance!

Zettai Anzen Kamisori review
Zettai Anzen Kamisori is the first collected book of short stories released by Fumiko Takano (I already mentionned briefly how important she was in my review of Yellow Book if you want to learn more about her). The stories compiled in that book were originally published between 1977 and 1981 and it won the 12th Japan Cartoonists Award Grand Prize in 1983.

For stories that are supposed to still be quite amateurish, Fumiko Takano already shows that she is immensely talented and it's easy to understand her huge surge in popularity from there.
They're rather short (most are around 8-10 pages with the longest lasting 20 pages) and present in a wide spectrum of genres the intricate life of different girls.

This broad type of storytelling she shows in each of her stories I think helped a lot to make her stand out ; sometimes philosophical and suggesting in mesmerizing details an experience of the afterlife, sometimes the adventures of a little girl as she travels around the world, sometimes a simple discussion of a few teenagers inside a bus.

It wouldn't have much point detailing every story without experiencing him as her appeal comes from her newfound sensibility that a new generation was seeking for, thematically or aesthetically. It definitely can't be denied that her often minimalistic style and her choice for the different shots portraying the emotional state of her characters reinforces the true to life women experience of her stories that would also be used by Kyoko Okazaki later on.
There's also times where she likes to pay a tribute to some of her peers like Sugiura Hinako with a chapter drawn in the style ukiyo-e or trying to imitate the type of stories presented by Katsuhiro Otomo in Short Peace, which is far from a bad thing as she knows how to take the best from the works and rearrange them in her own style.

The richness and the many meanings that these tales carry, hidden between lines, make of this a priceless book that can be reread endlessly without getting bored.

Hakkeyoi review
Hakkeyoi is very much your stereotypical sports manga.

It features the story of Chinmi, a sumo wrestler who wins the local Hokkaido Junior Sumo Championship, despite his small stature. Unfortunately, he receives no scouts due to his being short - instead, the head of a small sumo school in Tokyo takes him in. The plot then begins along the route towards becoming yokozuna: nothing special, but a good foundation.

The art is typical of the 90s, and is simple and clean. There's nothing much to say about it, but there's distinctions between the characters and that's all that really matters. I will say that the fights in the first few chapters are quite well drawn though, clearly depicting the moves used by the wrestlers.

Characters are also quite simple. We have Chinmi - the short but determined wrestler, hard working and ready to do whatever it takes - and the owner of the sumo school, who promises to take Chinmi to new heights if Chinmi agrees to take on a different stype of sumo. Other characters (the fishermen, the wrestlers, and so on) serve their role decently enough but there's nothing else to say about them.

Overall, I did enjoy Hakkeyoi. Ultimately, though we see the hard-working, cheerful mc all the time in sports anime/manga, it's hard to dislike them. I'd recommend Hakkeyoi to anyone who enjoys the genre, and, in particular, fans of Hinomaruzumou - a series which I am sure received some inspiration from this manga, due to the similarity in one of the fights at the beginning of Hakkeyoi. It's a shame that only a few of the chapters have been translated, but those which have been translated are worth a read nonetheless.

Yume no Akichi review
I recently found out about this manga and given the interesting title and description I decided to give it a read. However, if the score isn't an indication enough I came out very unsatisfied. The premise of Patch of Dreams was interesting and I love stories that delve into the boundaries between fantasy and reality, sanity and insanity. This story does not lack that aspect yet I couldn't help but feel that this manga was hollow. I fear this could be due, in part at least, to the translation by Ponet as they are notorious for lackluster translations. The dialogue was choppy at best and awful at worst. It was not only unengaging but also insulting at times to read through the mess that was this book's writing. Since this partially to do with poor translation it is hard for me to get a real grasp on my enjoyment and appreciation for this book. It is possible that there are scans available that do a much better job at presenting this in a readable way however, I want to give my thoughts on it in the form I read. I would recommend looking for scans if you are interested in this manga and skip the Ponet Mon release.

As for criticism beyond the clunky translation I have quite a lot. For one, the character art was confusing. The main character is supposed to be in her 20s yet from her design I really thought she was 12. Now normally this wouldn't really be an issue except there are flashbacks to when she was actually 12 in the story and her character looks exactly the same. Despite the decade of aging I could not make out many differences and I was constantly getting confused as to which time we are in. This coupled with the story being "surreal" and switching between past, present and dream I was lost for the majority of this book. This leads to a broader issue in the art, I did not like the character designs. Aside from the deliberately weird dream characters the humans all had very similar looks that I was often confused at which minor characters were appearing as they looked way too much like other ones. The art otherwise is passable but the character designs really messed with me.

If it couldn't get any worse in general the story and characters were flat, dull and clunky. The translation certainly hinders here but I think there is a general failure on the part of the original author as well. The message was hamfisted in on nearly every page that by the time I finished reading I had heard it so much I could recite it verbatim. Not only is the story is repetitive it somehow also manages to go nowhere and do nothing interesting with its premise. She is losing her mind from dreaming so much, okay cool but what does that mean? Her friend and brother died okay obviously that bothers her but again what is the dream world for? Conflicts seemingly arise due to her being in these different worlds but they are never resolved they just sit a limbo world. Did that person really get killed by her dreams? She fell in her dreams in the past and supposedly couldn't go back now she can, why, what is happening recently that changed? I really do not know. There is so little development and depth put into the dream world it could easily have been discarded from this story and the message remains the same. She can still have her hallucinations without the dream world. So again what the hell is the point of the dream world? If anyone else can figure it out please message me because I just could not piece together any reason why it is in the story other than to be a vehicle for the author's preaching.

The characters are boring and have no depth. I really cannot think of any good qualities about any of the characters. The main girl is losing her mind but she doesn't do anything that made me even remotely interested. I could not figure out why she acts the way she does. Is it the trauma of losing her friend and brother? Is it because she is just a strange person to begin with? She doesn't do anything nice or thoughtful for others she just acts like an airhead and yet people seem to like her despite her drifting off into dreams every 3 pages. Really I have nothing good to say about the characters. The only interesting things are in the dream world and they just are there for show not one mention of any sort of reason why they look the way they do or what meaning they have to the main character. Plain and simply I could not identify with these characters. This further hurts the story as now not only is the message hamfisted in every other line, the dialogue sucking and the art being meh, I couldn't even find one character moment I liked.

Overall, I did not like this manga. Maybe it was my high expectations after coming off re-reading some of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" series I was keen on a powerful story about a troubled girl retreating into the dreamworld. Sadly, Patch of Dreams lacks everything that Sandman has: well written and human characters, meaningful and interesting purpose for the dreamworld, good art etc and etc. I don't rate this lower for the fact that a lot of my issues stem from the presentation of the story which I think the translation hurts and that could have been salvaged from a better translation. However, that doesn't excuse the general level of mediocrity from this manga. As someone who would consider themselves a fan of this genre of manga and comics "Patch of Dreams" or "Yume no Akichi" is one I would not recommend.

Adarshan no Hanayome review
~Story~
The story is about a ten year old princess who is forced into a political marriage with a prince who happens to be an illegitimate child of the previous king. At first it’s a rough relationship, the princess is stubborn and refuses to admit her budding friendship with her new husband. There are hints at a political plot, I noticed that the politics were really not a big plot in the story, it was light, nothing overly confusing.
Was the story good? Yes, it was. Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of plots very similar to this one in the respects that political marriage mangas are quite common. However, it took that idea, twisted it around until it became something else. Completely unique? No, it was very clique but it made up for that with the all around cuteness (Oh god I can’t believe I just used that word) but thats exactly what the manga was, cute.
The manga wasn’t deep, the romance was nonexistent (Come on...she’s ten what do you expect?) The political parts were kept light and didn’t overpower the relationship between the two protagonists.
~Art~
The art was actually pretty good, it flowed nicely, nothing was overdone to a point where it was unrealistic. The characters were drawn nicely, they were beautiful but not overly done. The scenery was alright, I personally didn’t pay too much attention to what the tree’s looked like because I was so caught up in the story. Is it the best? No absolutely not but it is good art and its certainly worth taking a look at.
~Characters~
Alexid “Alec” was the black sheep of the manga, he was hated by some because of his skills in battle, they called him a demon. Throughout the manga you could see what he had to go through because of his heritage, he is the illegitimate child to the late king. At first he gets into a lot of fights with Justinia (The princess/His wife) however his affection for her grows rather quickly as he sees her child like wonder.
Justinia was the princess forced to marry Alexid in order for the alliance between the two nations to be complete. At first she had Alexid (I’ll try not to spoil it) because he indirectly took someone from her, she however realizes that although she thought he was a monster that he is just lonely.
The king is the one character that didn’t change much, you understood more of him as it went along but he never changed as a person. At first it appears the king very much hates his brother Alexid but eventually you realize he does indeed love him but was simply trying to protect him by staying away.
There are other characters but i don’t want to spoil it so i will leave them a mystery.
~Overall~
Overall? This manga was not the best i have ever read, it was made to be light and easy to read, something that made a smile sneak onto you face, it was not make you think or to be dramatic and a big thing. It flows easily and is easy to read, nothing goes unexplained for long periods of time. The characters don’t grow a lot but this manga didn’t require them to, their feelings grew but their personalities didn’t. The plot was good, it would have been a mistake to make the manga serious and overly political, they did a good job on keeping it very innocent.
Would i advise it? Yes but not if you’re looking for something with a huge plot and a lot of heavy material, this is a light and very innocent manga. If you’re looking for something that makes you grin a bit then i suggest this wholeheartedly.
