Solo Leveling review
Story: 9/10
Solo Leveling most definitely gave OP MC's a one up. It is a genre that many animes, manga and WebToons have done decently well. Solo Leveling really does do the OP MC genre well. The character development of Jin Woo was outstanding because it really brought out the satisfaction that the audience wanted to see. It is a fast paced story that is surprisingly easy to keep up with. The only flaw was that there were barely any other stories and the only focus of the story was Jin Woo. It is a good thing however, that Jin Woo did have many moments to himself to compensate for the lack of other story arcs.

Art: 10/10
I am a big fan of WebToon art styles and Solo Leveling had consistent clean art throughout the whole series. The lines were polished and thick. The colors were also bright and contrasted. The dungeons were slightly dark, however that made a cool effect with Jin Woo's signature glowing eyes. Both bright and dark parts were amazing. Character design were also classic WebToon which I also love. All in all 10/10.

Character: 10/10
Jin Woo was the main character of this WebToon. They placed large amounts of emphasis on his growth as a person and character. The powers he gains and the respect he gains from other characters really made him grow into the OP MC we have. Other characters were relevant enough to support Jin Woo's growth and that was enough to place the focus mainly on Jin Woo and keep us captivated on his character.

Enjoyment: 9/10
Seeing an OP MC grow is by far one of the most satisfying things in this type of entertainment. Solo Leveling definitely fulfilled my hunger on that aspect and it really did well. I loved the fact that they planned this story for 2 years and gave it a satisfying and cool environment to enjoy. I just wished there had been a little more female action going on there. Otherwise everything I enjoyed fully.

Overall: 9/10
Like I said, I enjoy this type of story greatly. I am satisfied with each battle and each level up. Each time an antagonist's ass gets whooped by Jin Woo. Proving someone wrong is a great feeling and Solo Leveling provides us that feeling. The feeling of having the ability to prove someone wrong and become more powerful. The overarching mystery of how he gained his powers as well as the gates becomes the mystery for another day. The day when Jin Woo becomes even more than he already is.

Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria review
Thoughts on the First volume:
It was decent.
The story is about a teenage boy named Kazuki Hoshino who goes to school one day to find that a new transfer student named Aya Ontonashi has arrived, who declares war on him. That evening, she is found dead. The main character then discovers that his entire class have been reliving the same day (2nd of March) over and over again 27,000 times. Only Maria and sometimes Kazuki remember and at the end of the day, someone always dies.
The story is morally complex and has very well written and realistic characters, and the psychological taxation of the situation is not ignored. Imagery is well described and the book's true villains are revealed through some genuinely great plot twists. With that said, the book is far from flawless. After the first plot twist is revealed, the book's focus shifts to the necessity of one girl needing to accept her inevitable death in order to end the horror of the Repeating Classroom... The ending of the book ruins this and any tension involved for reasons I won't spoil. The ending also inexplicably undoes the removal of certain characters from existence, ruining all of the tragedy and horror that had been built up and making some of the more horrific deaths seem like pointless edge-fests. Also, while the rest of the characters are really interesting and well written, the main character just isn't. We learn nothing about his life and history or his personality beyond that he has a crush on another character (a girl named Mogi). I honestly think that Mogi herself would have actually been a far better main character due to her history and importance with what was going on, and her mentally unstable personality. Our lead by contrast is just a bland self-insert, and it almost made certain scenes boring.
I also don't understand why the book never even tries to show us how the parents and teachers are affected by the pseudo-time-looping that's going on, since apparently only the classroom and a few nearby areas actually go through the loop. We never even see our main characters interact with their families. Since it's established that time isn't really looping, it also makes no sense that the appropriate amount of time doesn't appear to have passed in the real world after the Repeating Classroom ends.
We also learn nothing about why the mysterious "O" (the true main villain) is so interested in Kazuki or why he put all of the other characters through the horrific events of the novel for so long despite himself getting bored of them. Aya also tells Kazuki a bizarre amount of things that she realistically wouldn't if she actually believed that he was lying, and to make matters worse, her reason for believing that he was lying make no sense:

Basically her goal was to find out who was behind the Repeating Classroom by finding out who remembered her real name from the previous time loop. The problem here is that no villain with a brain would ever tell her her real name in the first place, because that would give away everything. Instead of considering that he might remember for the same reasons she does, she instead assumes that he's a complete moron. This makes her entire plan to reveal her enemy feel incompetent, and counteracts every other attempt to make Aya come across as being ultra-intelligent.

So, overall the book is plot-hole ridden and shamefully edgy but has a lot of intrigue and a well put together mystery with mostly satisfying reveals, with only a few cop-outs. 6/10, recommended.

Usually historical manga depict characters living in some certain time of period in certain place so doing much research about the culture and history is must but this manga is truely do not deserve to be called that.

Story
The manga follows Genghis Khan back when he was still called Temujin. He is extremely powerful and blessed with divine protection from the heaven and with that he trails bloody path to create one of the largest empire.
The main premise align well with the history but everything else contradict it. It's fine to take creative liberty or have interesting twist on it but it was so loosely adapted might as well as make a whole new manga that has nothing to do with Genghis Khan. To give you an example in first few chapters there is character named Borokhula who becames a comrade and swore his loyalty to Temujin but in reality he was adopted son of Genghis Khan and was found after the destruction of the Jurchen, one of the tribes of Mongolia, and given to Genghis Khan's mother to be raised.

Art
So the art style isn't that bad and action scenes where it truly shines. I also enjoyed the background art and character design. It manages capture that rustic Mongolian feeling really well.
Characters have distinctive features and it's easy to tell apart who is who but Temujin sticks out like a sore thumb all the time. I don't mind the crazy gravity defying hair but did he really needed to have white hair. It clashes with everything else and he literally looks like your typical shonen protagonist in traditional mongolian clothing.
Speaking of clothing, sometimes characters would be dressed in clothing from wrong era. Deel (traditional mongolian clothing) from that time didn't had collar and woman didn't wore belts which is where the word "бүсгүй" meaning lady or young woman derived from a word "бүс үгүй " which literally means belt less.

Overall
If you take everything it says with grain of salt and just go along with it's badass manga but not something I would like to reread again.

BE WARNED; THIS SERIES ENDED UNFINISHED!

Not trying to leak any spoilers for the series- but after chapter 38, there is a random time skip that changes the pace and tone of everything prior in the series so randomly and quickly that you feel like you had a mental relapse. Various readers who will read the series will notice it and will make you think that there are chapters missing... Nope. It really just went there.

The story then proceeds to rush past all the character development, plot points, and all sense of fundamental story telling to end the series as conclusively as possible within 2 more chapters (ends at chapter 40 but we are unsure if it is "confirmed" ending at the moment of writing this).

Why did this happen? People are speculating the series got axed by the publisher because it seems the author had no intention with this route and did his best to end the series as quickly as possible and resolve the great developments he was leading up to.

If the ending wasn't so horribly rushed- this would be an easy recommend.

---

The beginning is so good and the growing development is so intriguing and unique that it keeps you engaged for what's happening next. The series outside of the last handful of chapters is A-tier if you're looking for a casual fun read.

The art style is very clean and easy on the eyes. The character designs are borderline generic but each have nice traits (best girl wars are to be had). The usage of facial expressions makes for a lot of great moments in the series that are quite memorable.

There is so much potential in the series. I'd rate it higher but anyone who reads far enough in the end will almost regret ever reading it for how bad the ending is. It hurts almost more because overall the series is so good and it's the publisher that chose to end it.

If you're willing to enjoy a good story and won't be soured by an ending because you enjoyed the "journey" more than the destination- have at it- this is a good series worth reading for all the unique interactions the main character faces.

If you're the type to be disappointed by bad endings that collectively ruin your entire perception of what you experienced... Stay far away from this. There's nothing but regret.

Personally, I think if this series went on the trajectory it was originally going... could easily have been rated 8-10/10. But the way it ended for me personally removes so much of the magic and makes me sad that this will be the end for this potentially amazing series. I think this is better than most 7/10's in general by far; but I think 6/10 is a fair warning for those who might regret reading something that ends so abruptly.
