Domestic na Kanojo review

Domestic na kanojo is a 226chapter (currently) walking time bomb, it’s a show where anything that can go wrong will not only go wrong but it will cause critical dmg to everything in a 40km radius. The show is packed with plot twist and intense drama plus a few other moments that give this show its beauty or its doom. To be honest domestic na kanojo is a manga that will either be a hit or a miss, there is no grey ground in this case. Meaning that you will either love everything about it or want to burn the entire manga collection and then remove that ashes from the face of the earth. To start it off I would like to first get into the characters of the show, main cast to be more specific.
CHARACTERS
Natsuo Fujii is probably one of if not the dumbest characters you will ever meet. His lack of determination has brought the show to its knees but also is the main reason why the show has so much drama in it. He constantly keep switching between his love interest which not only shakes up the manga to the core and makes it impossible to make in solid ground on which the manga can stand, it keeps fuelling the never ending war of who the best girl is. He is an aspiring writer that tries to make it big in the world by writing novels. Using his own experiences as the Muse for writing his work and sometimes learns from the mistakes he made ( but mostly he just forgets). He is portrayed as a charismatic and dependable person that is also hardworking when its needed. But mostly he just does what is needed to avoid any type of uncomfortable situations with other people since he cant actually make a decision without thinking it over for 3 years. But as incomplete as he is, he does help others as much as he can no matter on how it may reflect on him

Rui Tachibana one of the sweethearts of the show. Rui is a cold Kuudere that doesn’t show of a lot of emotions in the begging and like every other kuudere she warms up to Nat as the show progresses.
SPOILERS
since rui gets most of her development later in show in the begging she seems very normal and not that emotional considering the fact that she slept with Natsuo. Later in the manga she decides to become a chef and works as much as possible towards that dream. Rui is probably the most normal character in the entire domestic na kanojo show, which is no surprised since she does have the same char design as one of the characters from Sasuga Kei's (the author) previous manga. Her personality is pretty stable and she acts like any normal person would from situation to situation. She knows what she wants and during her time while being with Natsuo we get to see this sweet and caring side of her, with a lot of emphasis on her feelings like lust, fear, despair, jealousy, happiness and so on. Overall a pretty stable char that has a slow and healthy pacing (except for that first part when she slept with Natsuo) when it comes to building up her relationship with natsuo.
Hina Tachiban is probably my least favourite character of the show. Ofc that’s just my personal opinion but I find most problems that come from this show are cause of Hina and Natsuo themself. Hina is Rui’s older sister but only in age. And what I mean by that is that Hina is an immature 27 year-old alcoholic that has the brain of a 14 year old girl reading shouju mangas. She doesn’t put much thought in her actions and they mostly end up badly for either her or more people. She is a teacher at Natsuo's and Rui'a school teaching English and for a teacher a person that Is supposed to guide other people to success Hina cant even grasp her own life. She lives with her mother and sister even though she has a stable job and is actually 27. She is dating a married man and during this time she will cheat on him with natsuo. Her love for natsuo is unexplained when it comes to why they fell in love and is described as unconditional, which makes no sense since Hina was dating Shuu for a long time, and natsuo was one of her students who was probably 16 at the time they met. Now these two will have their relationship and it will be discovered and will lead to hina having to move out of the house. Where she will teach in another city while getting drunk at night and going to work the next morning, sadly this alcoholism isn’t caused by the breakup, hina was always a drunk and has always had a problem with alcohol she just seems to be ignore It. Later in the manga she will be allowed to come back after a few years when she Is supposed to be matured and evolved pass this childish behaviour. But she doesn’t and just pretends she has her feelings under control.

The side characters of the show are well built and designed with most of them having their own goals and aspirations and they get treated properly in their own arcs of the manga. Plus they are shown after the main characters finish school and are brought back in a later stage with their own accomplishments and stories do them and with different relationships that have evolved/devolved during the time they were away.

Manga
Story
This is where the manga kind of wields a double edged sword where It makes it good but also ruins it. The entire manga is a click bait. The drama is constant and every chapter will make you wait for the next chapter like a kid waiting to open a present on Christmas or it will give you more of a reason to hate the show. While I enjoy the show and plot twist are constant and sometimes cliché and plain stupid at the moments will either make you like this manga or break your interest to read it. Like every story Domestic na kanojo has good moments and bad moments the good thing about this story is that you honestly don’t know is smth a good moment or a bad one. Cause the plot twist are often and they are on a large scale after a while you lose this sense of it actually being impactful. But that is a double edged sword as well.
What I honestly can commend Sasuga Kei for is the constant progression of the story, even with all this drama and problems it shows a realistic aspect of humans where they put all of that besides when going into public and tend to deal with the problems ourselves without wanting to confide into anyone. The plots are sometimes ground breaking and genius but some are also so dumb that it makes no logical sense that the author did it on purpose for example the arc where the manga literally turned into Breaking Bad.
The actual plot of the manga which is incest is not handled properly or more to say not discussed to the amount it should. Characters mostly shrug off the whole problem which in a romantic way makes sense the whole “we are in love thing”, but then again it’s not smth so trivial that can be handled like that. Incest (and I know that they are blood related and all) is not some out of the box topic or smth that is new or innovative, but most shows avoid this topic cause it’s really hard to work with and will cause backlash no matter how well it’s done or how well its treated.
The manga later leaves the whole love triangle topic where each of the characters have their own stories and own problems which is also a nice touch.
ART
The art of domestic na kanojo is simply amazing the char are well drawn and there is a nicely decorated background most of the time. The male char are mostly buffed which I find weird but the girls are done amazing their facial expressions are never stale or stiff and their body figure Is done properly
OVERALL OPINON AND RATING
As I said domestic na kanojo is a hit or miss so you will either love it or hate it but I will try to keep my ratings as objective as possible since I enjoyed the manga. Would I recommend this show 100% yes. But read the first 30 chapters, and if you like it you will love the rest of the show if you dont like it then just drop it cause it wont get better for you .
