Koi no Kotoba review

tl;dr: A story that's somewhat of a mess with a few highlights, but considering how short it is that's enough makes it pretty decent.

This was a really short story, and there's not a lot to it, but considering how long it is it feels sort of right. Still the story was all over the place. The main thread is about the relationship between the two, but that itself is very rarely the issue itself, rather it seems to focus on the problems the two have, with their relationship simply being how they escape from said problems. Still, they never really have problems with each other so there's not relationship drama on that end or anything like that. As for the problems they face, Tounosuke's life is essentially frozen in place with him needing Yuuri to combat his loneliness but feeling guilty about doing so, which is his issue consistently from beginning to end and works well enough. On the other hand, Yuuri's problems are all over the place, which makes sense as her life is rapidly changing, but how plot threads pop in and out abruptly, often in random and unexpected ways is awkward. The tone and mood shifting with these was just as random. Still, having a lot of underdeveloped events works decently enough as the story ends before it can feel like it's becoming an issue. As for the relationship itself, it was actually pretty cute, which I didn't expect considering how awkward the premise was and how they seemed to be trying to take it seriously. The development is more of the type that just sort of happens going with the flow rather than something clearly built up, but that works. How it all ends I was pretty disappointed with, in that it has one of those endings that leaves things just a little bit open, where it suggests that things end well to the point of being completely obvious, but it doesn't show it, which I feel really wasn't necessary here as one last clear image with impact to close things off would have worked really well. The art was pretty good.
