One of the candidates for becoming an astronaut. When JAXA committee were deciding who of the applicants would pass to the third round of exam Nanba Mutta and Sawaki Manabu were the ones to fill the last open slot. Tanuma and the major part of committee insisted on taking Manabu, while Hoshika Tadashi and Nimura were on the Mutta's side.

Nanba Mutta was chosen as the last person to pass to the third round of the exam on the whimsical wish of the JAXA's director Nesuda Shigeo; all thanks to the uproar which Mutta caused in the USA. However Manabu and his friend Mizoguchi Yamato were convinced that Mutta passed because of his brother's influence.
