Platinum End is dull, which is amazing, considering it's about a deathmatch to decide the next GOD. What's that? Do I hear a complaint? It's a philosophical story that asks what kind of person should have absolute power and what one should do with it? Perhaps. But it's mostly a deathmatch. A very boring one. Everyone has the same powers, and even those powers are unimaginative. Superspeed, Instadeath Arrow and Geass. This makes the battles (which are too long to begin with) boring.

The main character is a naive idealist crybaby, the kind of person that I hate to read about. The rest of the cast are all people who have given up on life, or are at least equally dull or unimaginative. Discount Walter White, discount Reinhard, childhood friend no. 2934, etc. This is because only hopeless people can be be God Candidates, for convoluted reasons. Apparently only hopeless & suicidal people have the drive to change the world for the better. Flawless reasoning. They are all also in Japan, for equally convoluted reasons. "God just likes Japanese people" would have been a better reason than the one they gave. There is no excuse for this, the wings let you go faster than sound, you could be in any country you want within minutes. It's only because it'd be too hard to write. The writer would have to research different places (gasp!) and give characters unique personalities that are influenced by their place of birth. (double gasp!)

Platinum End just stinks of wasted potential. Imagine if the protagonist wasn't a puppet being steered here and there by other characters. Imagine if he was proactive, like one of the villains. Imagine a worldwide game of cat and mouse, in which every player has a unique power with its own pros and cons along with a drive to change the world. And that's what Platinum End could have been. Instead we have this disaster. Well, at least Nasse is cute, so that's something.

Bonus: You wanna know what I'd do if I was a God Candidate? I'd immediately take a flight to USA, shoot Trump with a red arrow and have him nuke Japan. Problem fucking solved. Kneel before your God, bitches.
And yeah I know that plan wouldn't work, but at least it'd be exciting, unlike this travesty.
