Bougyaku no Kokekko review

Well the premise sounds nuts. But it gives away exactly what the manga is going to be like: an horror story with comedy elements. The horror aspect is played out both physically (the chickens murdering everyone are brutal) and psychologically (the scenes with a particular antagonist). The comedy is pretty on the face and absurd and delivered mostly through the art, but man I loved it.

Story: 7/10
The ridiculous premise and the way it all developed was overall great. The ending (or the final arc, to be precise), kinda drags down the score for me. I'd have enjoyed it more if they didn't go that route.

Art: 9/10
Damn the art was great. The children and the teens were drawn in a very shonen style, whereas adults were given the seinen treatment. The art at times reminded me of "I am a Hero", because of how expressive it is. While the protagonists were mostly drawn in the shonen style, the experience as a whole felt very unique.

Character: 8/10
Now I'm debating whether I should give it a higher or a lower score. Some of the characters have non-existing personalities, but man... Tora goes through a whole psychological transformation that's written incredible well and man! It. Was. Great. I feel like the author took the wrong turn at the end of the series with some of the decisions, but that doesn't take away much from what we have seen. Tora feels very very real and I think he alone is enough to warrant this high of a score.

Enjoyment: 9/10
I went in having very very very low expectations and honestly I got a very fun experience out of it. I wish it was longer so I could keep on reading it but I'm satisfied with its length.

Overall: 8/10
If you're into horror, this is a good read. Even if you're not, this could be a very unique experience. I highly recommend this manga.
