"Men exist only at the price of betting on their own chances to exist. "

Usogui, written by Toshio Sako is one of the manga that had a great success in the Young Jump. Rightly so, because despite its flaws: it is a very good manga.
We find ourselves immersed in a rather dense universe, with different forces more powerful one than the other, which directs the great authorities of this universe as well as its darkest side. In Usogui, you will find a very large, perhaps even too large, panel of charismatic and interesting characters. Each narrative arc brings details about these characters: their past and their ambitions, etc...
I found the main character quite fascinating. He combines all the ingredients of a good character in a betting manga. Moreover, as in any good betting manga like Akagi or Kaiji, stress situations are particularly well handled. Indeed, the author's style, which will change several times during the course of the manga, will always be put at the service of sometimes very embarrassing situations. This constitutes an entry point into the universe of Usogui, and it is thanks to this that it can be called a good manga of bet.
In addition to being a betting manga, Usogui takes a lot of code from fighting manga like Baki. These fight scenes are sometimes really epic, and really mark the contrast each time the author decides to apply himself to make them. These fighting codes correlate with the concept of "referees", which you will discover when reading the manga.
Finally, an important point to emphasize in this manga is also the originality of the games proposed. Indeed, the bets, very often deadly, are quite original, especially in their narration. Indeed, Toshio Sako is able to make impressive and poignant a game of battleship.
In short, Usogui is a rather exciting manga with a plethora of charismatic characters and bets more deadly one than the other. This manga is nevertheless not perfect. It contains a lot of elements that make it easy to get lost in the plot, especially since the author does many foreshadowings. For the moment, there are 35 volumes available in English.
