Love Letter review
This is a pretty impressive view of the subject of love. For such a short story, it manages to make good characters and a great quality plot.
Love letter chooses to show the big picture, showing the gray areas in our concept of good and evil. At the end of the story, I felt sadness and pity for the main characters. When I saw the situation that leads Asako to despair, it was difficult to classify her as evil or good. Like most of us, she`s someone in the middle, making her a person deserving the reader`s attention and care. (I`m not trying to justify her actions) As an average person, when pushed to the edge, it`s evident that her story wouldn`t end up well. On the other side, Tomoya`s (had to look for his name; it appears only once in the story, rsrs) love for her mother (Asako) amazed me. It`s Love with a capital letter. We can`t classify that as a love of mother and son or between friends or any sort. It`s love truly beyond form and limit. It`s caring at the utmost level, and it`s a choice. This love is wholesome, beautiful, and sad—the meeting and matching of two souls. |
Love Letter review
Half and Half is a one-shot romance manga by Kouji Seo.
It's about 2 complete strangers, a guy and a girl, that died in an accident but god gave them a chance to let just one of them live and they have a week to come up with an decision. During that time, they have to share all their emotions and must not separate. Well thats pretty much it. Since its a romance manga you can pretty much predictwhats gonna happen... There's only one more thing i could tell you, and that's how the manga ends, and that would be huge spoiler since that its too short. I gave the story a 6 because i found it sort of original, but it was not interesting at all. Though the story itself is dull and predictable , the ending is touching and unexpected The characters are your average good-hearted timid guy and your typical (kinda) tsundereko found in most of Seo's works. There is not character development whatsoever. I liked the art because im a big fan of Seo's style, but there's nothing special about it. I would recommend this manga to the people who liked Seo's works such as Suzuka and Cross Over. If youre not, but youre looking for a romance manga, give it a shot, itll just take you 15 minutes. |
Love Letter review
Beware, for the following review may contain /spoilers/.
Love Letter is a one volume manga by Seo Kouji, and is somewhat a deviation from his other works. While a lot of Seo-sensei’s manga are high school romances with ecchi on the side, Love Letter is a tragedy based on real historical events. Mochida Chieko and Anazawa Toshio, two teenagers, fall in love during the events of World War II. Fate, however, does not allow them to be together, for Toshio enlists into the aeronautical army and joins the air force. Later on, he is assigned to the special force – otherwise known as the Kamikaze, those who go on a trip from which they will never return. Love Letter is predictable. But that does not make it bad. That is precisely, perhaps, why it is so beautiful. You know what /should/ happen, and the manga does not deviate from that. It does not give Toshio some miraculous way to escape from his fate. Love Letter is, first and foremost, a realistic and poignant romance that manages to wrap itself around your soul. You /will/ be crying by the final chapter, and that is a guarantee. Seo Kouji knows exactly how to manipulate your emotions with words and drawings, and he does it well. The art itself screams Seo Kouji’s style. It’s very typical of him. Clean, pretty, and well-drawn. Chieko looks somewhat like a cross of Suzuka from “Suzuka” and Yuzuki from “Kimi no Iru Machi”. Thankfully, though, he is capable of varying his character designs enough to avoid having his characters look like clones of each other. All in all, there is precious little to say about Love Letter, other than it is a heart-tugging, lovely romance that is sure to bring tears to your eyes. It's short and sweet. If you have a little time, read it. You won’t be disappointed. |
Love Letter review
Best tragedy manga, in my opinion. A genuine tear-jerker.
The story is somewhat well-known. A girl in WWII Japan falls in love with a college student who enlists in the air force. You can pretty much guess what happens, but it doesn't matter. That's the beauty of this work. You know the story--easy to predict, if you didn't already know it, but it still moves you emotionally. The characters and the pacing are brilliant. The length, as well. Long enough to derive empathy for the characters, and short enough so that you don't get sick of them or bogged down with sappiness. Back in those days, where parents dictated one's social life, where dating was only permitted if marriage was agreed upon previously...those kids sought love, like any generation of graduating high school students. This manga is the story of two late teenagers who fell in love when life threw them the mother of all curveballs. Instead of folding and looking passively at strike three, they took a chance and aimed for the fences. This manga is based on a true story, and believe me when I say that this is a worthy adaptation. |
Love Letter review
As a Kouji Seo fan you will read many forms of romance. From something down to earth realistic to something supernatural and ecchi. With this story love letter he is saying I can write a tear-jerker too.
The story is very nicely told. The way it used letters to tell parts of the story is very nice. It sets the mood, gives it intensity as well as emotion and it's placed so well in the story it never felt out of place or forced. One thing about this is the plot doesn't feel very original. I can see this story line easily being used in a movie or novel before. However the story it self is still very story and nicely done so even if its not original its still very enjoyable. The artwork is very light and suits the story well. However even with light drawings it also has some very fine detail to appreciate. The shading makes it look like a photo that era so it fits with the theme. I recommended this story to a friend the other day his comment on it was its way too predictable. Its true its very predictable. What happens in the end can easily be seen so if your someone that think a likes surprises and complexity or uniqueness maybe this story is not the best. As for me I also find it predictable but didn't mind it much because of the flow of it is very nice. Even when it is a tragic tear-jerker story. The taste was bitter sweet because of the light atmosphere and even though the ending has sadness it also felt satisfying. |
Love Letter review
The first time I heard about Half & Half I wasn't really interest at first because it was only a one chapter manga and I thought that it wouldn't be too interesting because the character and story would feel incomplete but when I realized that a mangaka was Kouji Seo (The same person who created Suzuka), I immediately decided to read it and what I read was something that nearly brought tears to my eyes.
Story: The story is pretty good, extremely short and direct to the point. The best thing about this is that it is unique ( I have never read anything that comes close to it). Art: The artwork is great and it has Kouji Seo's signature written all over it and I'm surprised at myself for not realizing it earlier when I saw the cover. (Kouji Seo is the best mangaka in terms of artwork in my opinion) Character: The characters here aren't given much detail but this is expected because the manga is only made up of a single chapter with 40 pages, despite that everything the reader really needs to know about the characters are present. Enjoyment: I don't really have much to say in this due to it being only 40 pages long but to put it simply, I really enjoyed it... so much so that the moment I finished reading it I immediately started writing this review. Overall: The manga is extremely short and direct to the point yet it feels very complete and it left a lingering feeling of sadness within me yet it also made me because the story was directed superbly. |
Love Letter review
This is amazing. As expected of Seo. The feelings that are present through this remind me of makoto Shinkai's voices of a distant star. Tears were on the edge of my eyes when i read this 100 page manga. Plz read, it will only take 10 minutes or less. and plz read while listening to Ef - A Tale Of Memories Sorrowful feather
