Summary
Kyousuke Kousaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, hasn't gotten along with his younger sister, Kirino, in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever.

One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Merle (Stardust Witch Merle), which had fallen into the entrance way of his house. To Kyousuke's surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled 'Imouto to Koi shiyo!' (Love with Little Sister!). Kyousuke attempts to fish out the culprit who dropped the case by bringing up the topic of magical girl anime at the family dinner table. All that comes out is a strong negative reaction from his parents, especially his anti-otaku policeman father.

That night, Kirino bursts into Kyousuke's room and, in perhaps the first conversation she has initiated with him in years, says they "have things to talk about." Kirino brings Kyousuke to her room and shows him an extensive collection of moe anime and lolicon bishoujo games she has been collecting in secret.

If you are looking for another ending than was in the anime, then no, it's similar. But the novel contain more content than anime, for example Ayase's ark is rather more detailed (Stalker incident is mentioned only there) and Sakurai ark is only in the novel. And a lot of little details, especially in the ending part of the series. 11th and 12th tomes picturized in just a short special of the second season, but it is at least 500 pages of text! I think that it is the reason why the anime ending is a little bit incomplete, because then reading detailed novel ending you don't have a feeling "Why did they do it?", although they are similar. On the other hand, another tomes filmed quite detailed. If you did not seen the anime yet, then do it, it is kinda more impressive. That book would be interesting as an addition, if you are Oreimo series fan, but not that necessery for plot to read 12 tomes.

As for the novel itself, by and large it is very good. A long time going slice of life with interesting, detailed characters, cool tsundere as the main heroine, lots of humour, ecchi moments, pleasant illustrations, light drama, simple and readable text. If you are looking for a siscon story, keep in mind that it is a slice of life and comedy title, with no serious drama.

P.S. For different endings read the PSP visual novel (You can start right from the second disk), there you can find good endings for Kirino, Kuroneko, Ayase, Manami, Saori and even Sena. They are quite better, but it's just an addition to the original series, that valuable only because of it's alternative endings and can't be compared to the anime/novel, in my point of view.

Strengths:-
1)Oreimo talks a lot about the anime culture of Japan. Comiket held in Akihibara, doujinshis, eroges that people buy. Yes, people have such hobbies and the society reacts in a disgusting way towards people who tend to have such hobbies.

2) Despite many people criticizing the second season because it focuses more on the relationships with different girls (harem) of Kyousuke rather than the otaku culture. I found Manami's arc to be quite good. An arc like that is rare in harems. I liked the humourous parts too.

3)Kirino's character is relate able, especially for those who have to hide their hobbies because of the fear that they will be seen in a negative way or simply because of the fact that people around them aren't aware.

Weaknesses:-
1)You can't help but notice that this anime for lolicons(fanservice). Although, I read the LN, cute girls wearing frilly costumes for modelling. And, the consistent use of 'onii-chan' in the LN is irritating.

2) The ending was very vague. I had problems understanding that one. Although, I read the explanations. You could say the author chose this ending because he wanted to avoid a happy end (unrealistic) or bad end(heart-breaking). So, not exactly disappointed but not happy either.

3)Kirino's character is annoying. No matter what the reason, her behavior gets on our nerves. Not to mention, she isn't even close to an understanding little sister even though she is living with her brother for a long time.

Should you read Oreimo? No, do not waste your time.

Not for those who have just started reading manga or anime though. It has references to other anime and for those who have been an otaku for quite a few years now, will know the references

This my first anime review, so sorry if isn't that good.

I finished this outstanding LN and found out that there is no decent review of this masterpiece? So I resolved myself to write this as my first review.

STORY - 7:
The main characters are brother and sister who hate each others guts. The Story develops as the brother discovered a secret about his sister being an Otaku. They have to challenge a lot of trouble leading them to improve their relationship. Eventually new characters show up and they strength their bonds with them too and great friendships were created. Not a great story but very well delivered with drama peaks and peaceful times.

ART - 8:
This is a novel so there isn't much art but I think the few artworks on the covers and in the novel are very simple and clean, i liked them a lot!

CHARACTERS - 10:
THIS IS WHERE OREIMO SHINES!!
The main plotline is the relationship between brother and sister but it also doesn't forget all the other characters who have such a great background story, every character feels convincing in his or her actions. I came to love almost all of the characters (except Manami, sorry...) The bonds between all of the characters, their backgrounds, their actions, their feelings: all of this felt so real while reading! I cheered for all of them at some point in the story. It feels like they were created with so much love and care.. I am still amazed. I would read their story for ever!!!

ENJOYMENT - 10:
I guess you already figured if you read this far but I LOVE THIS SERIES. I was sad, I was happy, I was excited, I cried, I laughed till my stomach hurt, I was angry, I was jealous, I felt all emotions a human could feel while reading this Light Novel. But I was never bored or thought of stopping to read this. I devoured this series so fast I almost regret it now but this series is worth reading it...

OVERALL - 10:
READ THIS!! It's a story about the relationship of two siblings who hate each other but they make up while the story develops. Their bond strenghtens and improves you can't do anything else than cheer.

In comparison between anime and novel, the novel of course has more story to offer but the anime adaption is very well made and follows the main plot, so if you are lazy go watch the anime AND THEN READ THE NOVEL FFS!!! JUST. DO. IT!

I hope my first review conveyed my feelings for this series to you dear reader :) KANSHA SHINASAI YO! *tsun*
