Baramon no Kazoku review
Warning: As much as I enjoyed this manga, the series unfortunately got cancelled. It basically ends like this: "Let's head to our final battle guys! YEAH!!" However if you enjoy Fist of The North Star, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Sakigake!! Otokojuku, then you must read this manga.

The story introduces The Family of Brahman which utilizes this ancient assassin fist known as The Fist of Brahman. The Brahman's use their martial art as a way to enforce justice from the shadows. Around chapter 7 is where the plot kicks in as the main character, Ryu, must go on a journey to find 7 members of the Brahman family and join forces to defeat a rival assassin bent on creating World War III.

Much of the story revolves around martial art battles much like North Star & the author's previous work, Sakigake!! Otokojuku, however the middle of the story contains a road trip much like Stardust Crusaders in JoJo. Other similar traits are the characters as most are basically recycled from Sakigake Otokojuku bearing similar designs and personality such as Momotaro, Toramaru, Date Omito, Akashi Gouji and the obvious Hokuto No Ken references being the Fist of Brahman and a main villain who's basically Raoh.

Overall, there are some recycled elements from Otokojuku but manages to bring some new material to the table such as the more detailed uses of the Brahman Fist. It's a shame that the series got the axe as its conclusion was very clearly in reach. The main highlight for me was the journey as it gave the same feel as Stardust Crusaders especially when some comedy would be added due to the large cast of characters. Family of Brahman is definitely a manly shonen which incorporates the spirit of the 1980's with bearing heavy influences of the "Big 3 of Manliness"; Fist of The North Star, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Sakigake!! Otokojuku.

Innocent Devil review
The manga has a great start with an interesting focus on "innocent devils", murderers who kill simply because it is the most optimal solution and thus, lacking an intent to kill. Quickly on, we are introduced to our two interesting main characters, and the cast continues to grow and... That's it.

Jumping right in, I have to say I adore the artwork. It's incredibly beautiful to look at, and the character designs, although a bit odd, are appealing and unique in their own ways. I especially adore how the artist draws each characters' eyes. Each character is distinguishable from the others, and the artist takes care not to reveal any gore or erotic content, despite all the heavy action. The pacing of the manga was decent; while it wasn't rushed by any means, I didn't feel compelled to turn the pages. The reason for this is the main characters.

Innocent Devil suffers from what I like to call "Twilight Syndrome", in which the supporting cast are all incredibly interesting and well-written, but the main cast is not. Touko Kamijou is a genius researcher who's studying innocent devils, but due to her childish appearance and nature, is not taken seriously by the academic society. We learn that she is very talkative about her research topic, but struggles at other conversations; and quite indecisive. That is all. Her character does not progress at all throughout the story, despite being a main character.

Akane Shinkai, on the other hand, is an innocent devil who kills her parents at a young age and is taken under the wing of Touko. A contrast to her guardian, Akane is mature and disciplined. We learn early on that she wishes to understand herself better, and grows to have a self vs self conflict between her child/innocent devil self, and the self who wishes to live normally as a non-devil. Akane's character is all laid out, and her personal conflict sets as one of the main driving forces of the story. Unfortunately, the author appears to have forgotten about it until the last second, where it's shoved in as a weak way to conclude the story.

Continuing on with the story, it's weak. Characters are introduced and given importance, and while we learn about these side characters, there is no real story for them to partake in. Each chapter feels relatively episodic, and the overall flow of the story is difficult to grasp. I am especially upset about Kanna Tousaki, who, despite being a very fascinating "morally gray" character, is thrown to be used as not only Touko's backstory material, but also the conclusion to Akane's long-time self-conflict.

Overall, a summary:
+ Great art
+ Interesting side characters
- Poor story
- Static and uninteresting main characters

Frogman review
Frogman is a moderately ecchi seinen romantic comedy about a nice, nonathletic boy (who can't swim) who joins the swim team to get closer to a pretty girl. If that plot sounds uninteresting to you, then look elsewhere; Frogman is a fine example of it's type, but there is nothing here that's exceptional or even all that unpredictable. On the other hand, if that plot sounds like it might be fine... read on.

Oh, and note that this isn't really a sports manga: the swim team setting is just an excuse to have girls hanging out in swimsuits. They don't go to swim-meets, and I think there are only three swimming races of any type in the entire manga.

Story (6): It's mostly a slice-of-life romantic comedy. The two spend most of the manga trying to sort out their budding romantic feelings for each other, while a series of antics ensue around them. The manga isn't long enough for this to get frustrating or for the jokes to get old, so that's good. On the down side, there is one storyline involving a rival high school that's a tad too dark for this manga, and the ending is a bit abrupt (though not altogether unsatisfying).

Art (7): Pretty girls in swimsuits. Lots of them. Otherwise, the artwork is serviceable shounen.

Character (7): Michiru is a fairly typical shounen rom-com lead: nice guy, hard working, nonathletic, and kind of spineless when it comes to women. That being said, he isn't as annoying as some others in the genre. Haruka is a bit more interesting, as she balances her desire to have fun and hang out with her friends, with her growing romantic feelings (that she's completely unprepared for). Otherwise, you've seen these characters before: busty, aggressive coach; tsundere romantic foil; the childish and lacking-in-boundaries girl who is in love with the tsundere; and a few other side characters who come and go without leaving too much of an impression.

Enjoyment (7): Some of the jokes are funny, Haruka is always pleasant whenever she's the focus of the story, the lead isn't overly annoying, and there is good eye-candy throughout.

Overall (7): If you like ecchi shounen rom-coms, you can certainly do a hell of a lot worse than Frogman. It's certainly not perfect, but it's a solid example of the genre.
