Vagabond review
Vagabond is a story that really wants to be deep and interesting, but doesn't do nearly enough to earn it.

The plot follows some wandering samurai trying to be the strongest in the land, fighting harder and harder opponents, winning, losing, learning what the way of the sword means... until it isn't. Then it switches to another guy who does the same things, and then over to another guy who is a failure at everything that he does... and like all of this happens without any real indication so you don't have a good idea of when things are going on since it'll go from past to present in an instant. What I'm trying to say is that the plot is, while very simple at it's core, made very messy by time and perspective skips that can be easy to miss if you don't pay attention. You'll end up getting it all by the time everything connects though, if you're willing to get that far.

The characters in this manga are one of the biggest things I don't understand/don't like about it. Our main MC is a hothead that only wants to be the strongest, but as he goes on his journey he learns time and time again how much he has to learn. So you would expect him to grow from that right? Well 200 chapters later he's pretty much the same person, only stronger. It's always frustrating to see characters who need to change and grow stay stagnant for so long, especially when the story calls for them to grow too. All the other characters are also just as flat, with no one making any real appreciable changes in a whole 200 chapters. The worst part about all of it is that no character has made me want to root for them. Nothing about them really draws you in or has some great ideal you can sympathize with. Because of that, it's really hard to get engaged in the story to listen to what it has to say.
In terms of character design, a lot of them blend together, which I guess is intended because the author was going for a realistic feel, but it makes things confusing. Character motivations are pretty much always the same for like every single character, which is pretty annoying also.

Even in terms of theme the story feels very inconsistent. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to believe about the whole 'way of the sword' since no one ever practices any of the ideals that are brought up. I suppose the author could be saying that it's up to each individual reader to make that choice, but when you take no stance for something this long, I don't think you deserve to be considered deep or meaningful. Like, a father doesn't want his son to be a swordsman because it brings nothing but death and sadness at the end, which is what the first arc seems to be telling us, but then after he finds out his son likes fighting, he says that he loves the way of the sword because it made his son strong? What is the audience supposed to take away from that?

I guess the only thing that I can really give Vagabond praise for is its art, which is pretty nice most of the time. You can tell a lot of time was spent making it look really nice with all the detail there is, but that's the only real thing I like about this manga.

Overall, Vagabond is a lackluster story hiding behind its art. Characters are flat, the plot is all over the place and it's thematically unsure of where it wants to go. No characters really pull you in, nor anything in the plot, so it's kinda just feels like you're casually watching a movie on the side when you're focusing on something else. It still has it's amazing art, so if you're into that I might recommend this manga, but other than that, it's not too worth it to read.

Sky Crawlers Series review
This is quite a unique military love story ended with a heartbreaking scene. The story was described only from the main character's point of view and nothing was told about whom and why they were fighting. The romance of Kannami and Kusanagi was unusual. It's one of the driest and most tragic love stories I've ever read.

Killdre (kill+children?) are ever-young and immortal pilots unless they are shot down. So they don't persist in their lives and never be afraid of death. They regard the sky as their true place for living and take the lives on the ground as "the bottom of the sky". The description of the Kannami's mind and the dogfights were so much in detail that I deeply empathized with the pilot although he was really weird in character.

As a mystery novel, this is incomplete. You have to read the rest of the four volumes to understand all the secrets and the backgrounds. But even without knowing them, you can enjoy this volume because all you know is just exactly as much as Kannami knows. You see the world subjectively through Kannami's eye and feel like unified with him.

I repeated reading this many times and found the impressions were different in each time. There are lots of foreshadows hidden in the dialogues. At first I couldn't understand the last scene well, but I started to grasp Kusanagi's despair after reading it several times. The end of Kannami and Kusanagi's romance firmly choked my heart.

If you are looking for a exciting military novel or a heartwarming love story, this is not your taste. But I strongly recommend this to those who wanna try something new and original. I'm sure you cannot help moving on to the next volume "None But Air".

Mon Seul review
When I read the synopsis, I immediately knew what the story was about. How it was going to go about it... was the reason why I read it.

I've used "one step in the mud after another" to describe an anti-feel good manga before

. But this time I think I'll go with 'sky diving with an elephant on top'.

Lolicon has always been a worry. Some anime/mangas distract you with comedy, fan-service, or incest -kissxsis-. Some even try to raise an ethical point.

But Mon Seul sets up the situation, and goes from there. It doesn't try to convince you of anything. It just shows you what probably will happen, when it happens. I guess one could respect that. The logic in the characters+story seem sound from where I'm standing, but I know most won't agree.

As most people over at mangafox.com have expressed, this definitely isn't a manga to make you feel all fuzzy inside. Raging emotions, inner conflict, murderous intent, maybe a sick feeling inside... I think it's safe to say THAT is what you'll be getting by reading this manga.

Psychological/ethical, tragedy/drama, lolicon and family issues. How could I write a positive review about this? I guess if the point of the manga was to create unpleasant feelings and ethical debates on lolicon then... well done. It's perfect. And unpleasantly realistic, as many won't agree.

I won't say I regret reading this. If there was anything I liked about this manga, it'd be that I have respect for a mangaka to do this kind of story - and how it refuses to be solved.
I don't dislike it because I think it could be better. In fact, I don't know how it can be better. Can it have a satisfying AND realistic factor when it comes to a story like this. You could have a lolicon manga that makes you fuzzy inside. But that's not realistic.
The only thing I dislike about this manga is that it can't be enjoyed. But I guess that can't be helped. Be it my own fault, or the ethical issues it deals with.

_ >_>' and don't click 'un-helpful' because i'm following the guideline "don't write spoilers".

Dominion review
Because MAL does not have a separate page for both of the Dominion manga (which are vastly different, by the way), I'm going to attempt to write this review to suit both of them.

The original Dominion has got to be the lightest read I've ever bought, Shirow-wise anyway. It was funny, had decent artwork, and had more tanks than you could shake a pistol at. Released in 1986, this is his third work, and one of the easiest ways to get someone at least interested in Shirow. There's no huge glossary you have to memorize, no notes to take or side stories to follow. It's just a straight cop and robber case, and all the wackiness that ensues in between. Some of the characters seem to pop up in other manga of his too, Crolis and Buaku to be precise. The art isn't his best, I'll admit, but it's still decent.

Now No More Noise, which was released in 97 on our shores, is much better. While it doesn't include some of the characters from the original, mainly Al, it does bring a whole new squad and a few unexpected members to the team. The art is vastly improved, since by that time he had gained much more experience, and some of the color sections (there aren't near as many as I'd like), are very pleasing to the eye. The story focuses on yet another crazy criminal, but this outing has a lot more going on. The quirky characters in Leona's squad provide a few laughs and keep the ball rolling, not that it ever really slows down. It's more action packed and easily dominates over the original in almost every aspect of its creation.

TRUE BEAUTY review
The show was not very appealing at first because I don't read manga. Back in early 2000's and the walking dead comics is all I consume. Although, I love the underdog story so far ans where it has been expanding into something i can get behind, a girl who cannot value herself because of what she see's on the outside. She appears to be unaware of her set backs. Naivety, low self-estem and no confidence. Although, I like it. Everyday, after reading and preparing for my assignments this is a nice read that I really enjoy for what its becoming.

Story: 7 Story is paced evenly, however, I cannot praise it when key plot points feel very distant. Comedic timing is always good though. I do enjoy the way it is panelled, It feels like an anime but without voices, animation, sound and op and ending songs....

Art: 8 the art, when focused on individual characters is cute, sleck and well-designed, however, background is not very appealing because of the lack of scenary.

Characters: 9 Yes...A lot of troupes and cliches but they are all structured in the light of a very original and unfamiliar character, the main character who i adore. she is placed into situations that whilst very formulaic, she still does not solve the conflict but rather adapts and overcomes from the situation at a cost (self-confidence), having changed (learn that not everyone will like you or treat you well as a partner but don't lose hope).

Enjoyment: 8 Honestly, already talked about the great comedy that will grow on you the further it progresses and everything seems to working. There's always something to feel great about in this series even when the story feels too dragged out sometimes.

Overall: 8 If you have a love for this kind of love story with rivals and character i would recommend that you read the first 5 and review but if you are not enlightened by then, drop it. You are not going to get huge rushes of emotion from this one but it is by far the most consistent show on Webtoon.
