I don't know what I was expecting from this manga. But if you're satisfied with just romance and drama, you may actually enjoy this manga more than me.

Story(6) - The beginning of the story was interesting. In fact, there were a few interesting points in the story due to the drama. However, the plot had more holes in it than swiss cheese. If you're going to actively think about what's going on in the story, prepare to formulate hundreds of questions that will never get answered. The ending was also really disappointing. It seemed as though the mangaka just wanted to put as much drama and romance in the manga before bailing out and leaving the ending as it is.

Art(4) - I'm very picky when it comes to art. But I thought that the drawing was mediocre at best for a manga. The characters looked stiff most of the time and the lines weren't even all that refined, except for the background buildings. The only reason why anyone would like this art is because the eyes are extremely big and sparkly and that there were a ton of flowery romantic effects used in the background. Sadly, sparkles aren't enough to make me believe that the art is nice.

Character(3) - Now the characters were what pissed me off the most. The main heroine was just an two-dimensional girl( not 2D, but you know....superficial) who can't even protect herself. She puts herself at the mercy of her butler, Isshin. Now Isshin was just a boy she saw outside his window until the story decreed that he must become the heroine's butler. Unlike the heroine, Isshin has more depth to his character. There was more than meets the eye but there was so little development on his character in the end that his mystique seemed like the author's last ditch effort to make the character more charming. The other characters were just not important.

Enjoyment(5) - I guess I enjoyed the manga in the beginning as it seemed like there was some promise, despite how annoying the main female was.

But if you like romance manga where all the characters have big, pretty eyes... that's all there is to this manga, big, pretty eyes. Then you will definitely enjoy this manga.

This is my first review! Here it goes:

Story(4) - The story is basically about a rich girl named Haruru Shirosaki and her master-servant relationship with her butler Isshin. Sounds great right? It starts off pretty well, but unfortunately, it all goes downhill from there. I've noticed that in like every single chapter that Haruru needs help/is molested and then Isshin comes to save the day. That was the whole storyline after the beginning. Seriously. There's not even proper romance in this manga.

Character(2) - The characters were just AWFUL. Haruru is weak and always relies on Isshin to help her. Plus, she's not the brightest person. And then there's Isshin. Sure, he's handsome and all but he was just as mysterious. For 23 chapters, you don't learn anything about him (except that he's 'dangerous')! This was such a huge letdown for me. None of the characters develop at all. And good lord, the side characters. Almost all of them (except Mami) were each introduced in one chapter and were never to be seen again.

Art(9) - The art is probably the manga's strongest point (which isn't necessarily a good thing). It's beautiful, really. The guys looked bishounen, Haruru looked cute. It was just gorgeous shoujo-styled art. If you don't mind big shoujo eyes, I think you'll enjoy the art, too.

Enjoyment(7) - Even though there are a lot of negatives to this manga, I somewhat enjoyed it. I loved the art. That might be the only thing I actually liked though. I honestly don't know why I enjoyed this manga as much as I do. Perhaps it was because I loved seeing Isshin's face all of the time.

Conclusion - If you like bishies and butlers, you'll probably like this. But don't expect much romance. And getting sexy is not romance, just to get that out there. Amai Akuma ga Warau overall was pretty mediocre objectively. The story was bland. Character development was nonexistent. Definitely not recommended for those who want a manga with a good plot.

"The distance between him and me is unreachable" - Haruru

Amai Akuma Ga or sweet devil smile (as translated in MAL) is a shoujo manga illustrated and written by Pedoro Toriumi. When I say shoujo, I only mean shoujo as this manga has no other genres, like other shoujo manga's have.
So what is in the plot that made me read this?
Misunderstanding. No, I don't mean the ploy here but my reason of reading this manga. A BIG misunderstanding. Being a sucker for romance, I got easily fooled by the fan girdling comments of the plot being " sweet" and "moe" in various sites, but trust me, if u feel any guy holding a girl, sort of molesting her as moe..... Now then this is for you.

SCORECARD for lazy readers-
Plot- 6
Art-6 for isshin 7
Character and development-4
Enjoyment-6
Overall score-5 (personally- 4)

Welcome, the little princess on board, miss Haruru Shirosaki, the daughter of a big director who is ah.... Never home. So he feels, 'my dear daughter must always be lonely' ( presumed without me) So he brings in a 'butler' or the hero and only savior of the manga, Satomoto, Isshin, the son of a person who has his business failing.
Interested? Well so was I, till this point.
Going further.
Our little princess is from a girls school which is exactly opposite to a boys school. So all the girls just go " kya kyaaaa" at the hot guys. And mind you, these girls are filthy rich. So Haruru sees isshin from the school window and sort of mesmerized by him. ( P.O. - if the schools were so close, just make it co-Ed with different sections.duh) As she wonders about ever meeting him, back home, her father introduces her to isshin, aka now the butler.(previously the window crush)
And the summery wraps up and the dangerous love saga starts ( dangerous?.. Nah I don't want to spoil things here)

The drawing is good, but for some reason, I feel the main character really annoying. Yes, by art, annoying, not to mention i even feel her character a bit twisted. but again this is shoujo manga, so keeping all "sense" at bay, i'll forgive her. coming back to the art, everyone else look amazing except the main character. Why? For being a directors kid, she is hardly matured. The guys introduced standout (take it as a compliment here) and actually saviors of the manga.( no spoiler intended) . But as I mentioned in the start, the only hope and appeal of this manga is isshin and boy o boy, he sure is hot. The other detailing is also good, but nothing out of usual in case of backgrounds.

Character and development.
The most disappointing and lacking part of this manga is maybe this critaria. And perhaps the reason for its downfall. The main character is not mature as I mentioned earlier and is airhead. Not that I have a problem with being a air head, but for her position, She is a real kid and she is as bad as hikari (special A) in Nobelism. Well hikari was not Rich, so I won't blame her, but this kid here is really great. Ok i'll be a bit kind and mark her good points as well.
She is a fluffy character, has no problem with guys undressing her or peeking under her skirt and has no problem living with a butler under the same roof.
Isshin is introduced amazingly but when it comes to development, he is treated brutally. He is dark and I really like his teasing ways and the dark aura. But he is an open mystery which will never be solved, be it past or his change of emotions, which I was really waiting for in 23 chapters...(gah, what a waste)
But the fact that even our isshin can not defeat the devilishly talented butler, Sebastian from Black butler remains a reality. Tough both emit the same dark aura, Sebastian is "devilishly "talented and isshin is ..well...."dangerously"talented.
As for other characters, I won't open their names, but you have some real good characters which had a real nice potential, but like isshin treated very harshly and thrown out. Whats left, some cute and spoiled rich brats and some minor yet potential characters who can be mesmerized by just a touch. (If you ever read this, you'll get what I mean)

"The boy who stares at me intently is my just butler... ALthough he is a dangerous guy" - guess who?

Enjoyment and conclusion
Does it have any... ? That up to you. But my personal opinions are below.
If you like hot butlers, got bored of sebby and just want a new butler to play with, you have one open candidate. Second, if you like crazy plots, abrupt endings, lack of character development, this is the ideal manga
But for me this was nothing but a manga to kill some exam pressure with, and perhaps a wrong decision. I won't say it sucked or is horrible. If it were, I wouldn't take the pain to write so much. But yes, is manga which had a really good potential, good intro but poor development and situations.
It's as if you have the required cloth, buttons, a sewing machine, but have no idea how to make a shirt!
For few instance they could detail things about isshin, or the other potential characters. (No spoiler intended, but so far where did Dangerous appear?) But for some few good scenes, some hot poses and for few chapters I'll give it a 5. Some may favour the art so. Maybe a 6 for them. Apart from these numbers, I don't feel this manga can get more.Maybe I criticize this a bit more, but it feels bad to see a good story down the drain.... Deep down the drain.

Yet, I look forward to sensei's next work, which perhaps may be a bit improved and has much better things in store.

** I may have messed up few things here and there. If so I sincerely apologize, since I was busy thinking about the good points of the manga :D
Sarcasm apart, if you have any opinions you would like to share, suggestions, tips to pull more leg of the manga, or some real long lecturing on how pathetic I write, do drop by a comment on my page**
