One Piece review
“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.” ― William W. Purkey

One Piece is about chasing after grand treasures while going up against the status quo, and it handles this differently compared to other series like Naruto, Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, etc. The biggest notable difference is that it does this through "laughter in the face of danger". In most other series, our characters just can't have comedy right in the middle of a fight against an antagonist because it'd ruin the tension and not fit within the gritty world/theme it wants to portray. One Piece manages to do both comedy and gritty tension, and this is what allows Oda to draw unique and interesting movements that surprise the reader and makes them laugh. If you're a confident person, you can handle jokes and have some self humility, but if you're un-confident, you smite down all attempts. A king sits on the throne with his back against the wall, with guards on either sides of him, because there he can't be stabbed. In truth, he holds a fixed image of himself that refuses to be vulnerable. The fool on the other hand, can play any role and is at the center of vulnerability.

In One Piece, our characters try to HAVE FUN along the way towards accomplishing their goals, which can be off putting to some because it seems like they're not taking it seriously, which is just not true because if you aren't having fun, you'll end up quitting, which is why our main characters ARE having fun, because it leads them to not want to quit. Their goals aren't an obligation to do for the greater good, not to get external validation, but to satisfy their internal ones. "The real world is not fun and games", is the point of view that gets pushed down to our characters and while other series has their characters trying to adapt to a cruel world, One Piece responds with, I don't care.

One Piece is just a blast to read, I couldn't stop flipping the pages when I was little because it just constantly had things moving as much as possible. Oda is immensely creative in surprising me and I'm just going to fanboy my thoughts to convey what i mean, so:

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

When Luffy got hypnotized by django and their plan backfired rofl.
When Luffy was fighting Crocodile, and nothing worked because all the punches went through him, and it just seemed like an impossible up hill battle, aojfagja0e9g, like HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE TO WIN? I was on the edge of my seat(same with katakuri).
When Nami was fighting DoubleFinger, your weapon is fricken terrible lolol!
Sanjis wanted poster is a drawing of an actual person

...I really don't want to spoil more, so please find out for yourselves!

Overall One Piece is a fun comedic journey across a giant world with lots of inventive places and characters that are a joy to follow.

Alive review
Story:
Not that great. A real mess of forgotten character traits, weak character relationships, and just weak characters overall. A waste of time. I found the first chapter to be a real cheat. It lays the foundation for a neat protagonist as a writer who's on death row. Then it's never mentioned again that he's a writer despite a fairly important scene taking place in regards to it, and it really doesn't matter that he was on death row either. It's kinda just dumb.

And that's a lot of what's going on. It's just a buncha dumb stuff. I'll give credit where credit is due: there are bits and pieces of potential strewn throughout this manga, but the problem is that almost ALL stories have bits and pieces of things that work. The problem is how a writer capitalizes on it, and this particular mangaka doesn't do that at all.

I can't really talk too much else. I suppose that's fitting.

Art:
The artwork is where Alive shines. It's pretty great, although some proportions were a bit of a mess. That said, I couldn't tell what was going on with a few panels (and even pages) so I the mangaka improved on his motions and separating the setting from the actors in later manga.

Character:
Just crap. Again, there's some foundation, but then water comes in and shows how weak it was. I can't give a 1/10 because there was an attempt, so I'll keep this at 2/10.

Enjoyment:
Once I realize the mangaka was leaving a ton of stuff empty and wasted, I kinda checked out. There wasn't much this manga could offer me at the halfway point other than the small chapter count. I suggest avoiding this one. Just boring.

Orient review
OK. When I founded that Magi´s author realased a new manga i didn´t expected too much. Maybe because it reminds me of Edens Zero or Samurai 8, which taught me that the fact that a person makes a good manga doesn´t means that everythinh it does is good. But I had a big surprise reading Orient.

The story is about the Edo Japanese period dominated by Onis and Kishins (basucally, demons, samurais, swords, magic, that kind of stuff) and a guy called Musashi and his friend Kojiro (I still loving that references to characters of the context that Ohtaka works)

STORY: 6
This is the weakest point of Orient. The problem isn´t that is cliche, but is very simple. Is just, the kind of stuf you´ll find in every manga, and its SO SIMILLAR to Magi in factors like the use of magic and the adventures. In fact, the magic system is pretty similar to all the shonens. But, for the other side, Orient is a light and simple reading of a shonen manga, and is starting to getting better from chapter 40. The battles aren´t a masterpiece, but they´re not bad. They have a good balance between power and strategy for a shonen, and they are long and enjoyable (the battle from chapter one, which is supposed to have a duration of a few pages like in every shonen has a duration of 5 CHAPTERS OF 30 OR MORE PAGES). The battles are not easy to win, and, in the most of causes, Musashi and his friends lost important battles only for learn, earning experience and try again. This. added to a comedy that doesn´t feels forced and a NULL fanservice (seriously, in manga industries is hard, VERY HARD, to find a series without nude woman everywhere), makes Orient stands out in rhythm between the new shonen manga series.

ART: 8
I don´t mind some characters have the same design that others from Magi, because it only shows in the faces of some characters. But the facial expressions are so similar between them. In the other side, the weapons are pretty well drawed: you can see the light effects on the metal, and the extremely ornate and collored clothing and hair. The battles can be well done when the situation warrants. But another negative point is the simplicity of the design in Onis and Kishins, looking just like deformed joint masses.

CHARACTERS: 8
Simple but not annoying. Between the MCs is a relation it´s a fluid relationship that doesn´t consist in only repeating things like "the magic of friendship". I´d like to add the learning and evolution is having Musashi in the manga, learning about his mistakes and trying to correct them, thing you don´t often see in a shonen. For now, we have a pretty little cast for a modern manga, but I hope it gets bigger

ENJOYMENT: 8
If you´re searching an SHONEN GENERIC MANGA (generic doesn´t means bad, it means normal), you´ll enjoy it

Mayonaka wa Dame yo review
The art is great but the story is a joke.

As a note, this is the work of my favorite author. This is to show that I don't play games of favoritism. If I find the story great, I'll say it's commendable. If it's not, then it's not and I have no problems saying as such.

Silly teenage girl is one of those gullible teens who thinks love equates to sex. So she does her "duty", as it would seem, and has sex with her "boyfriends." Rather than giving the relationship time to develop so she can get to know the guy, she actually jumps into the sack with them very early on.

After being taken advantage of one last time she thinks the best way to live is to play men the way she has been played in the past. In steps her best friends younger brother, meaning a guy younger than her. He decides he'd be her playmate.

Ugh, it's depressing how horrible the story plays out. The characters are dull and unremarkable with stiff and uninteresting dialogue. The lead female character is naive, ridiculously promiscuous but enjoys playing the untried ingenue. The lead male has no real purpose in the story besides enabling her promiscuity a bit, even if it is implied he feels something for her. In essence the lead male had no depth, no presence, and gave nothing to the story. In her case, she had no depth, no presence, and gave nothing to the story besides being a dummy who is easy to get into bed after a few days of dating.
